Grmožur is a small stone island on Skadar Lake, once known as Montenegro's Alcatraz – a prison during King Nikola's reign. Built in 1843, its ruins today offer a glimpse into the harsh life of former prisoners. Today, it is an ornithological reserve attracting nature lovers and adventurers.
This tour includes entrance to the bird reserve, shallow canals covered in lotus flowers, stunning landscapes, and an optional swimming break in the middle of the lake.
Starting from Virpazar, we navigate through narrow channels covered with water lilies, reaching one of the most beautiful monasteries – Vranjina. A 15-minute hike leads us to a viewpoint with breathtaking panoramic views of Skadar Lake.
The trip from Virpazar to the abandoned village of Poseljani is perfect for guests who enjoy active tours. We hike 800m to breathtaking waterfalls and the ruins of old water mills. This once-thriving village had 15 functioning mills, but over time, the need for them disappeared. Today, only ivy-covered stone walls remain, along with a 300-year-old bridge.
